What are vape pen batteries?

A Vape pen battery, also referred to as a dab pen battery delivers a controlled amount of power to your vape pens atomizer to heat and vaporize your e-liquid or cannabis concentrate. These e-liquids and concentrates are contained in either a vape cartridge, reservoir, or pod, and turn into vapor when heated to the optimal temperature.

Vape pen batteries feature one or more control buttons or use an auto-draw detection system that activates the battery when you inhale through the mouthpiece and airflow passes through the device.

Your vape pen battery will dictate how long your vape can last before it needs to be recharged. Some vape batteries are only compatible with the same brand, while others are compatible with multiple vape devices and cartridges.

Vape pens are very popular with younger vapers and beginners due to their ease of use and the thick, flavored clouds of vapor they produce.

Types of vape pen batteries

Open System or Manual vape pen batteries like box mods, or vape mods feature larger heating mechanics and come with larger, longer-lasting batteries. They offer more features like variable voltage settings and tend to be more expensive.

Closed systems or Automatic vape pen batteries will nearly always use a cartridge to contain the e-liquid. They tend to be smaller for better portability, cost less, and come with fewer features.

It is very important to make sure that the battery you choose is not too powerful for your vape as this can cause the cartridge, or the unit to burn out.

Specifications of the batteries

The 510 thread vape batteries are the most common cartridge batteries on the market today and feature a thread design. They are compatible with most 510 thread cartridges on the market and usually have a voltage range between 3.3v and 4.8v.

You must match the voltage and mAh of the battery with your vape and cartridge. Most small and slim vape pens will have a battery with 3.3 voltage. This level of voltage is perfect for most oil cartridges, but will not provide enough power for ceramic or wickless cartridges that need a higher voltage to produce vapor.
