5 Weed Friendly Countries Every Cannatourist Should Visit
Traveling the world is something that everyone should get to experience at least once, as is trying all the weed each of the different areas of the world have to offer. With cannatourism quickly on the rise, I would recommend traveling to the following countries, each of which are known for their relaxed (or completely nonexistent) laws on cannabis.
Uruguay
Smoking cannabis has been legal in Uruguay since 1974. They were also the first country to completely legalize the sale of cannabis back in 2013. Now, growers in Uruguay are able to obtain growing licenses. Their product is then distributed to pharmacies, which are then purchased by members of a registry. Residents are also allowed to possess six plants. Non residents cannot buy weed, but they are allowed to smoke it. It should be noted here that Uruguayans are known to be very friendly about sharing their cannabis.
Portugal
At the beginning of the 21st century the Portuguese government decided that it was in their country’s best interest to approach drug use a public health issue, rather than a criminal one. This was why they decided to decriminalize the use of all drugs back in 2001. As a result continuous drug use in Portugal has declined from 45% to about 28% from 2001 to 2012. Though technically not legal, possession is not considered a criminal offense and cannabis is widely available throughout the country.
Peru
In Peru possession of drugs, including cannabis is okay as long as it’s for personal use. According to Peruvian law, you are allowed to possess up to 8 grams of cannabis for personal use. However, carrying more than one type of drug is a crime, so if I were you I would stick with weed. Smoking in public is fairly common, but I would not advertise it as it can be up to local cops’ discretion whether to mess with you or not.
Czech Republic
The Czech Republic has rather vaguely worded laws where possession of a “small” amount of cannabis is legal. Since there is no specific amount stated in the law this makes their possession laws quite lenient. In Prague, the Czech Republic’s largest city, it is common to see people smoking in bars and cafes. Headshops can be found every few city blocks. Despite all this, it is not recommended that you flaunt your smoking. A good one hitter would certainly work out to your advantage here!
Denmark
The Danish are well known for their relaxed attitudes about smoking weed, but the common misconception is that it is acceptable everywhere in the country. You can only buy cannabis in the hippie district known as Christiania, which is located within the capital of Copenhagen. Christiania is the place to visit for the cannabis connoisseur. Their head shops are open at all hours of the day and they sell every kind of hash that you can think of, including some you probably didn’t even know existed. Christiania is considered out of jurisdiction of Danish law. They even have their own flag!
