Are you looking for a new job, but don’t want to be another cog in the wheel at a corporate job? Luckily, the cannabis industry is one of the fastest growing industries out there, and they are looking for cannabis connoisseurs like you to come work for them!

Budtender

A budtender works at a dispensary and their job is to help customers choose the best strain of cannabis for them. It’s pretty similar to a bartender, hence the name. To be a budtender you need to be knowledgeable about all the different strains of cannabis available, in order to recommend the right strain to customers. To use a rudimentary example, say a customer is asking for a strain that would help them sleep better, the budtender would then recommend an indica strain. A budtender also needs to be able to work face to face with customers and be friendly. If you want to become a budtender, you should research the dispensaries that you want to work for and learn what type of qualifications they are looking for. Many budtenders start out as cashiers and work their way up.

Bud Trimmer

A bud trimmer does exactly what the job title says; they trim buds when the plant is ready to be harvested. Some bud trimmers work in an indoor facility like a greenhouse, and others work deep in an outdoor field. Bud trimmers have to know exactly how to trim the plant, as different strains are trimmed differently. They typically start out making low wages, but tend to quickly move up. Growers are constantly looking for trimmers, so if you live in a state or country where cannabis is legal your chances of getting the job are pretty high.

Grower

If you have a green thumb and a great deal of knowledge of how to grow herb, then you can always become a grower. You just have to obtain a growing license, which can be a bit of a hassle, depending on where you live. There are a lot of legal hoops to jump through, and growing is heavily regulated. If you can make it work, it’s worth it I’m told.

Dispensary Security Guard

Cannabis dispensaries are often the target of robberies, so they are always looking for dedicated security guards. If you have a background in law enforcement and/ or the military then you’re probably exactly who they are looking for. Instead of arresting people for using cannabis, you could go after people who steal it. What a way to give back to your community.

Pro-Cannabis Lawyer

The cannabis industry is constantly under fire from various anti-cannabis organizations, the federal government, and law enforcement.. As a result they are always in need of lawyers knowledgeable in the field of cannabis, willing to defend them from constant attacks from these groups. If you’re a lawyer looking to work for the greater good, then this would be the job for you.

Dispensary/ Head Shop Employee

Working at a dispensary or head shop is just like working any other retail job, except for the fact that you get to put your knowledge of cannabis and pieces to good use. If you want a job working at a dispensary or head shop, then I don’t recommend asking your local headshop if they are hiring. They get this question all the time, and are pretty annoyed with it. Cannabis Chef

Cannabis infused cooking is becoming very popular whether it be in fine dining restaurants or food trucks. If you love cooking and you love cannabis, then you should learn how to cook with cannabis, and seek a job at a place near you looking for cannabis chefs. If you are a chef and you live near LA, you definitely should get in on this, as cannabis infused “high”end dining is the newest trend hitting Hollywood.

Edible Maker

If you love cooking and cannabis, you could always consider becoming a baker of edibles. You should have knowledge of how dosing works and how to cook with cannabis. This is also a job that follows strict regulations, so any medical knowledge, in addition to culinary knowledge is a plus. Check your favorite 420 job boards for more information.

Delivery Driver

Many dispensaries are looking for delivery drivers to deliver their product to customers. If you have delivery experience and a good driving record, then you shouldn’t have any issues finding a job like this for a dispensary near you. Again, check your local 420 friendly job board instead of asking if they’re hiring.

Extract Lab Technician

An extraction lab technician works in a lab developing cannabis extracts such as wax and oils. This job is a bit more dangerous than the others because lab technicians work with heat and chemicals, and the extraction process hasn’t been perfected yet. If you have a strong science background, such as a degree in chemistry or engineering.
